River Jordan

by Madeleine Froncek

I’ve been out looking, for the river jordan

But I’ve been told, they’ve changed its name

What still stands, in the city I was born in

Since I left home on the devil’s train

Well the bees have flown, the doves have cried

The milk and honey, has all run dry

That mighty river, with its waters wide

As cold as ice, as cold as ice

Well we walked the desert, in the dead of night

A trail of sinners at my side

We dodged the bullets and the cactus spines

In the guiding shine of the blood moon light

Well the sail is torn and my sister long gone

She works the needle in the factory line

My brother’s hands have never held noone

Now I wait for the coyote's cries

Now there ain’t no boat, no savoirs song

Noone waiting on the other side

No, there ain’t no trumpets if you pass on, honey if you die

Lord, if I die

I’ve been out looking, for the river jordan

But I found my way to the Rio Grande

From the northern star to the southern serpent

When I lost my way to the promised land
